Cell Phone is short for cellular phone and is pretty much taken for granted these days. Originally analog , all present day cellular systems are digital which have progressed into the so called smartphone which has internet access.
First introduced in the mid - 1980's the cellphone exploded worldwide in the 1990's.
Outside of the U.S., cellphones are commonly known as mobiles.
As a matter of interest the first cellphone to be introduced in the U.S.was by Motorola .....the ' Motorola Dyna TAC at a cost of $3,995 and weighed in at two pounds!Things have certainly changed since those days!.
The largest cellular company in the world at present is is the UK based Vodaphone with revenues exceeding the $60 billion mark!
